What makes it immediately different from most resorts in the region is the architecture: a colonial Mexican hacienda style with grand chandeliers, wide arches, and an antique organ in the reception. The resort is on Playa del Secreto, known locally as Secret Beach, with over half a mile of private white sand. From November through April the beach is wide, clean, and uncrowded, with plenty of free loungers. Seaweed season in the Riviera Maya runs from roughly May through September. The beach here is affected during those months just like the rest of the coast. If beach time is your top priority and you are planning a summer trip, you may want to choose a resort closer to the Cancun Hotel Zone or Playa Mujeres, where seaweed is generally less severe. Evenings at Valentin Imperial are livelier than most adults only resorts in the area. The program runs games or trivia in the theater, a nightly show, then the Imperial band plays live, and karaoke continues until about 1 AM. Across the property there are 11 bars, including swim up bars, beach bars, the Don Miguel piano lounge, and a cigar lounge.

This resort works best for couples and adult travelers who want authentic Mexican character, large immersive grounds surrounded by nature, strong evening entertainment, and full dinner variety without having to plan reservations every day. It is not the right fit for travelers who prefer a compact resort where everything is close together. The property is very large and involves significant walking between rooms, restaurants, the pool, and the beach, so guests with limited mobility or anyone who finds long distances difficult should factor that in before booking. It is also not a boutique feel property. If you love the classic expansive resort experience, Valentin Imperial delivers it very well.
